Thirst Was Made/Best Dogs Ever

about

One of Lewis’ greatest obsessions was with the desires that the things of this world do not seem to fully satisfy. In his view, these desires—for beauty, glory, love, recognition, Joy, and truth—point to things outside of this world *for which the desires were made*, in the same way that thirst was made for water.

It is through this lens that Lewis envisions God’s coming new creation as one in which artistic practice is unburdened by ego and insecurity, and our deepest needs and desires are satisfied in meeting our loving heavenly Father face-to-face. The process of completing this album has been a challenge to live in light of that future hope *now*, to let go of perfectionism, and seek to enjoy the act of creating for its’ own sake, recognising that intimacy with God, (not artistic perfection or competence) is what will bring ultimate peace and joy.

I don’t know what any of this has to do with the themes I’m improvising around in the opening section, the ideas just feel linked to me. The upshot of all this is that I highly recommend reading lewis’ Non-Narnia books, (The Weight of Glory in particular is a very short read, and is available for free online!!) they’re very inspiring and thought provoking works.

The piece is also dedicated to all of the dogs in my life, as a celebration of all the light they bring into a dark and confusing world, they truly are a gift from God.
